Last year I suggested some books which I thought most affected or influenced my thinking and ideas in the prior year. As a reminder the two books, which I still very highly recommend from last year were Stephen Collier&#8217;s <em><a id=\"static_txt_preview\" name=\"evtst|a|0195373383\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0195373383?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=pseudopolym05-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=0195373383\">The Bottom Billion<\/a><\/em> (note: now in paperback) and Charles Taylor&#8217;s <em><a id=\"static_txt_preview\" name=\"evtst|a|0674026764\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0674026764?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=pseudopolym05-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=0674026764\">A Secular Age<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For the first book, an interesting approach to the theodicy problem in <em><a id=\"static_txt_preview\" name=\"evtst|a|0802829767\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0802829767?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=pseudopolym05-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=0802829767\">The Doors of the Sea: Where Was God in the Tsunami?<\/a><\/em> This book frames the problem and stresses that there aren&#8217;t &#8220;trivial&#8221; answers locates the best solution (and framing of the problem) in the literature as being found in Fyodor Dostoevsky&#8217;s <em><a id=\"static_txt_preview\" name=\"evtst|a|0374528373\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0374528373?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=pseudopolym05-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=0374528373\">The Brothers Karamazov<\/a><\/em> which &#8230; I also finished reading this year at long last. And which, now having found the suggestion that this book, among other things, is &#8220;about&#8221; theodicy I will start to re-read. This book too, I glanced at but will return to when I return to the latter book here <em><a id=\"static_txt_preview\" name=\"evtst|a|1602581452\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1602581452?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=pseudopolym05-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=1602581452\">Dostoevsky: Language, Faith, and Fiction<\/a><\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>For my second book, I&#8217;m going to have to go with <em><a id=\"static_txt_preview\" name=\"evtst|a|0691118809\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0691118809?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=pseudopolym05-20&amp;link_code=as3&amp;camp=211189&amp;creative=373489&amp;creativeASIN=0691118809\">The Princeton Companion to Mathematics<\/a><\/em>, which I highly recommend to anyone who likes math and has a few collegiate mathematics classes under their belt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How about you?
