The following link is a performance (in Old Slavonic) of a well loved Paschal (Easter) song <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Yup8_ecrFks\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Angel Cried<\/em><\/a>. It is sung in many if not most Slavic Orthodox churches during the season between Pascha and Pentecost. I love singing it (and look forward to it on our Easter\/Pascha starting next week), and I hope you too enjoy listening to it. In SATB arrangement it even has a decent tenor line, which is alas all to often not the norm.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The Angel Cried<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The angel cried to the Lady Full of Grace:<br \/>\nRejoice, rejoice, O Pure Virgin! Again I say: Rejoice!<br \/>\nYour Son is risen from his three days in the tomb!<br \/>\nWith Himself &#8212; He has raised all the dead!<br \/>\nRejoice, rejoice, O ye people!<br \/>\nShine Shine! Shine O New Jerusalem!<br \/>\nThe glory of the Lord has shone on you!<br \/>\nExult now, exult and be glad, O Zion!<br \/>\nBe radiant, O Pure Theotokos,<br \/>\nin the Resurrection, the Resurrection of your Son!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Paschal_greeting\" target=\"_blank\">Christ is Risen<\/a>!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For those unfamiliar with Orthodoxy, the term <a href=\"http:\/\/orthodoxwiki.org\/Theotokos\" target=\"_blank\">Theotokos<\/a> is commonly used for Mary. It means literally &#8220;birth giver of God&#8221;, in the late antiquity there were controversies whether the term &#8220;Christotokos&#8221; (birth giver to the anointed one) vs Theotokos should be used. We use that term frequently and in doing so affirm that the term Theotokos is correct.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A blessed Easter to those who celebrate that festival today.
