{"id":2282,"date":"2009-09-14T12:25:48","date_gmt":"2009-09-14T16:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=2282"},"modified":"2009-09-14T12:25:48","modified_gmt":"2009-09-14T16:25:48","slug":"dissent-then-and-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=2282","title":{"rendered":"Dissent, Then and Now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Patriotic dissent?&#160; That&#8217;s so <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0909\/27120.html\">last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Eight months into Barack Obama\u2019s presidency, as criticism of his administration seems to reach new levels of volume and intensity each week, the whispers among some of his allies are growing louder: That those who loathe the nation\u2019s first African-American president, and especially those who would deny his citizenship, are driven at least in part by racism. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a feeling that\u2019s acutely felt among those supporters of Obama who are themselves minorities. Conversations with Democrats at an otherwise upbeat Democratic National Committee fall gathering here, an event largely devoted to party housekeeping, reflected a growing anger at what many see as a troubling effort to delegitimize Obama\u2019s hold on the office. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as African-Americans are concerned, we think most of it is,\u201d said Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas), when asked in an interview in between sessions how much of the more extreme anger at Obama is based upon his race. \u201cAnd we think it\u2019s very unfortunate. We as African-American people of course are very sensitive to it.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s not like we didn&#8217;t see this coming, but it highlights a serious double-standard among Democrats.&#160; Apparently, only they can dissent <em>properly<\/em>.&#160; Criticism of <em>them<\/em>?&#160; Well, there are clearly nefarious undertones going on.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patriotic dissent?&#160; That&#8217;s so last year.
