{"id":2289,"date":"2009-09-15T12:34:35","date_gmt":"2009-09-15T16:34:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=2289"},"modified":"2009-09-15T12:34:35","modified_gmt":"2009-09-15T16:34:35","slug":"oh-that-liberal-media-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=2289","title":{"rendered":"Oh, That Liberal Media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A study shows that, it&#8217;s not that conservatives don&#8217;t write best-selling books, it&#8217;s just that the media are loathe to cover them.&#160; From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cultureandmediainstitute.org\/articles\/2009\/20090908115345.aspx\">Culture and Media Institute<\/a>, an example:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Reaching No. 1 on the Nonfiction Hardcover List is a notable achievement. To maintain that spot for more than a single week is truly impressive. <\/p>\n<p>Two liberal authors reached the No.1 spot on the List in 2009. Elizabeth Edwards\u2019 \u201cResilience\u201d was No.1 for just one week and Thomas Friedman\u2019s \u201cHot, Flat, and Crowded\u201d held that spot for two weeks. <\/p>\n<p>They received media coverage befitting No.1 best-sellers, garnering nine instances of coverage on the networks between the two. <\/p>\n<p>But there was another book that hit No.1. In fact, it held the No.1 spot for <i>12 of 18 weeks<\/i>, and has yet to fall under the No. 4 spot. (Also, at this writing, it ranked No. 24 on Amazon.com, and has enjoyed 186 days in Amazon\u2019s Top 100.) <\/p>\n<p>That book, \u201cLiberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto,\u201d by conservative political commentator and nationally syndicated radio-host Mark Levin, was by far the most successful book on the list \u2013 nothing even came close. <\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Yet Levin&#8217;s book received <i>zero<\/i> coverage from any of the networks since its release on March 29. Nor did his name appear on any of the news programs since the release.<\/p>\n<p>Contrast that with Edwards\u2019 and Friedman\u2019s nine instances of coverage for books that spent one and two weeks respectively at the top of the list. Equivalent coverage for Levin would require <i>36 mentions<\/i> on the networks.<\/p>\n<p>And the media blackout of \u201cLiberty and Tyranny\u201d extended beyond the networks and has been nearly complete. <\/p>\n<p>Levin confirmed to CMI that \u201cwe have not heard from any of the major networks, and the only major newspaper that has interviewed me is Philadelphia Enquirer, and that\u2019s because I\u2019m from Philadelphia.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If the media were truly drawn to ratings, and if ratings are driven by popularity, Levin would be all over the place.&#160; He&#8217;s not, and I&#8217;m betting they&#8217;re not, either.&#160; It&#8217;s ideological, plain and simple.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A study shows that, it&#8217;s not that conservatives don&#8217;t write best-selling books, it&#8217;s just that the media are loathe to cover them.&#160; From the Culture and Media Institute, an example: Reaching No. 1 on the Nonfiction Hardcover List is a notable achievement.
