{"id":253,"date":"2008-04-10T20:35:05","date_gmt":"2008-04-11T01:35:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=253"},"modified":"2008-04-10T20:35:06","modified_gmt":"2008-04-11T01:35:06","slug":"whats-ailing-the-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=253","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s Ailing The Church"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chuck Colson, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/article\/20080409\/31879_Chuck_Colson_Diagnoses_%27Heart%27_of_Church_Problem.htm\">speaking yesterday at the 19th Annual National Conference on Preaching<\/a>, hits the nail on the head in describing what&#8217;s wrong with the churches today: they don&#8217;t know what they believe. (Hat tip: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.worldontheweb.com\/2008\/04\/10\/colson-diagnoses-church-problems\/\">WorldMagBlog<\/a>)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOf course we care about the world. Of course we care about everything happening in society, including politics, but we better get our own house in order because what we see in the cultural collapse of America around us today and in the Western world is exactly on our doorstep,\u201d argued Colson, who was a top aide to former President Richard Nixon before being jailed for the Watergate scandal.<\/p>\n<p>Colson believes the root of the church\u2019s problem is that Christians don\u2019t know what they believe in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that is at the heart of the problem of the church \u2013 we replaced truth with therapy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost people are basically ignorant,\u201d he said referring to believers\u2019 lack of knowledge on their own religion.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s time for churches to return to the Bible, examining it, understanding what it says and how each of us need to apply it.
