{"id":2563,"date":"2009-11-12T13:09:44","date_gmt":"2009-11-12T18:09:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=2563"},"modified":"2009-11-12T13:09:44","modified_gmt":"2009-11-12T18:09:44","slug":"links-comment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=2563","title":{"rendered":"Links &amp; Comment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Remember &quot;Paul Harvey News and Comment&quot; on the radio?&#160; (Or am I showing my age?)&#160; At least that guy had the guts to let you know that he had commentary in his show, unlike some journalists these days that sneak it in.&#160; Well, no hiding it here.&#160; This is &quot;Doug Payton Links and Comment&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>Becky Garrison, writing at the liberal &quot;God&#8217;s Politics Blog&quot;, on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, says that <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.sojo.net\/2009\/11\/11\/more-walls-need-to-fall\/\">&quot;more walls need to fall&quot;<\/a>.&#160; Fair enough, and I&#8217;d tend to agree with that.&#160; But sometimes walls are necessary, and are the least intrusive method of dealing with an actual problem.&#160; They can protect more so than divide.&#160; One of the walls that Ms. Garrison says needs to come down is the Israeli wall on the West Bank.&#160; Meryl Yourish, however, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yourish.com\/2009\/11\/12\/9343\">compares these two types of walls<\/a> &#8212; Berlin vs. Israeli &#8212; and notes major differences in the motivation and the result of each.&#160; The Christian Left perhaps needs to understand a little nuance here.<\/p>\n<p>Dale Franks, writing at Q&amp;O, notes that the supposed upside of the government takeover of Chrysler, and subsequent sale of a large portion to Fiat, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qando.net\/?p=5733\">hasn&#8217;t, and looks like it won&#8217;t, materialize<\/a>.&#160; Your government, and your money, <strike>at work<\/strike> flushed away.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2009\/11\/024933.php\">An insufficiently colorful color guard.<\/a>&#160; Scott Johnson at Power Line point out political correctness in the smallest aspect of our lives.&#160; (And he needs to because the media doesn&#8217;t seem to want to notice it.&#160; Or it looks on with admiration and doesn&#8217;t consider it news.)<\/p>\n<p>For all the accusations of hate directed at the Right, and the religious Right in particular, Jeff Jacoby points out that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/bostonglobe\/editorial_opinion\/oped\/articles\/2009\/11\/11\/wedded_to_vitriol_backers_of_gay_marriage_stumble\/?rss_id=Boston+Globe+--+Jeff+Jacoby+columns\">they don&#8217;t hold a candle to the irreligious Left<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>President Obama doesn&#8217;t think that the prospect of jail time over choosing not buying government-mandated health insurance (and likely choosing not paying the fine) <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.abcnews.com\/politicalpunch\/2009\/11\/interview-with-the-president-jail-time-for-those-without-health-care-insurance.html\">is not the &quot;biggest question&quot;<\/a> Congress is facing now.&#160; Yeah, no big deal.&#160; (Riiight.)&#160; And in an Irony Alert, <em>candidate<\/em> Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openmarket.org\/2009\/09\/17\/public-option-is-not-the-worst-aspect-of-obamacare\/\">criticized Hillary Clinton<\/a> for proposing a health care system with a mandatory purchase requirement.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>The New York Times has no problem calling Jim DeMint a &quot;conservative Republican&quot;, but decides that Bernie Sanders, a <em>self-described<\/em> &quot;socialist&quot;, is only <a href=\"http:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/mitchell-blatt\/2009\/11\/12\/bernie-sanders-left-leaning-socialist\">a &quot;left-leaning independent&quot;<\/a>.&#160; Courage and truth from <em>that<\/em> liberal media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember &quot;Paul Harvey News and Comment&quot; on the radio?&#160; (Or am I showing my age?)&#160; At least that guy had the guts to let you know that he had commentary in his show, unlike some journalists these days that sneak it in.&#160; Well, no hiding it here.&#160; This is &quot;Doug Payton Links and Comment&quot;.
