{"id":2632,"date":"2009-11-30T13:01:20","date_gmt":"2009-11-30T18:01:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=2632"},"modified":"2009-11-30T13:01:20","modified_gmt":"2009-11-30T18:01:20","slug":"iran-disses-un-un-has-temper-tantrum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=2632","title":{"rendered":"Iran Disses UN, UN Has Temper Tantrum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>And, like most tantrums, it won&#8217;t change a thing.&#160; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2009\/11\/025040.php\">John Hinderaker notes<\/a> that the media just can&#8217;t seem to bring themselves to admit that a course of action has failed (and predictably so).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>You almost have to laugh at the way the media cover the &quot;international community&#8217;s&quot; kicking of the Iran can down the road. The board of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which a few days ago acknowledged that its policy toward Iran had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2009\/11\/025028.php\">&quot;reached a dead end,&quot;<\/a> has passed a resolution criticizing Iran for flouting U.N. resolutions and demanding that it stop work on nuclear weapons. The <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20091127\/ap_on_re_eu\/iran_nuclear\">Associated Press<\/a> risibly declares this a &quot;blow&quot; to the mullahs.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This assumes that the mullahs actually care about world opinion.&#160; Recent history does not tend to suggest this is true (to put it mildly).&#160; What <em>is<\/em> true, as documented by The Israel Project, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theisraelproject.org\/site\/c.hsJPK0PIJpH\/b.672631\/apps\/s\/content.asp?ct=7686029\">are these facts and figures<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>President Barack Obama recently warned that time is \u201c<em>running out<\/em>\u201d for Iran to join international negotiations over its nuclear program.[1] The Islamic Republic, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theisraelproject.org\/site\/c.hsJPK0PIJpH\/b.2060919\/k.753D\/Iran_Leading_State_Sponsor_of_Terror.htm\"><u>world\u2019s leading state-sponsor of terror<\/u><\/a>, has been deceiving the international community about its nuclear activities for almost a decade, prompting British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to declare that \u201c<em>the international community has no choice today but to draw a line in the sand<\/em>\u201d regarding Iran\u2019s nuclear aspirations.[2]       <br \/>Following are facts and figures relating to Iran\u2019s nuclear violations, terror sponsorship and domestic and international affairs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Nuclear Activity<\/u><\/strong>       <br \/><strong>\u2022 5,412:<\/strong> Centrifuges Iran is operating for uranium enrichment as of February 2009. Another 125 have been installed but are not currently being used.[3]       <br \/><strong>\u2022 2.75 kilograms (6.1 lbs):<\/strong> Amount of low-enriched uranium (LEU) Iran was reportedly producing daily as of June 5, 2009. At this rate, Iran would have enough weapons-grade uranium to create two nuclear weapons by February 2010. If all reported 7,052 centrifuges were used, the weapons could be developed as early as mid-December 2009.[4]       <br \/><strong>\u2022 4:<\/strong> UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions calling for Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program which Iran is currently defying: UNSC resolutions <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/News\/Press\/docs\/2006\/sc8792.doc.htm\"><u>1696<\/u><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/News\/Press\/docs\/2006\/sc8928.doc.htm\"><u>1737<\/u><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/News\/Press\/docs\/2007\/sc8980.doc.htm\"><u>1747<\/u><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/un.org\/News\/Press\/docs\/2008\/sc9268.doc.htm\"><u>1803<\/u><\/a>.[5]       <br \/><strong>\u2022 3,000:<\/strong> Number of centrifuges IAEA inspectors confirmed the once-secret Qom nuclear facility is capable of housing; enough to produce material for nuclear weapons but unsuitable for the production of fuel for civilian purposes.[6]       <br \/><strong>\u2022<\/strong> Approximately <strong>6:<\/strong> Countries\u2014including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey\u2014which would also pursue nuclear technology if Iran\u2019s nuclear program continues to develop, initiating a Middle East arms race and destabilizing the entire region.[7] <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When you&#8217;ve dithered for almost a decade, how much more time do you give them?&#160; Enough time to build a bomb and start an arms race?&#160; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thepaytons.org\/essays\/considerettes\/?p=2818\">As I&#8217;ve said before<\/a>, sometimes when diplomacy fails, it&#8217;s not necessarily a failure of those trying to prevent conflict.&#160; Some people\/countries will simply not be negotiated with.&#160; Iran, I believe, has proven itself, quite clearly, to be one of these.&#160; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>And, like most tantrums, it won&#8217;t change a thing.&#160; John Hinderaker notes that the media just can&#8217;t seem to bring themselves to admit that a course of action has failed (and predictably so).
