If you’ve ever limited your diet to only fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts, then you’ve probably gone through the experience of your body reacting to the change in diet. I won’t bother you with the details, but let’s just say that your body lets you know, as if you didn’t already know, that something has changed in its normal diet sequence.<\/p>\n

One side effect I will speak about is a bit of heartburn that woke me up last night, somewhere around 3:30 a.m. Now, normally I’d just try and deal with it – maybe some antacid or the standard baking soda routine. However, the main purpose for participating in a group fast is to draw closer to God, through Bible reading and prayer. Could it be that I was wide awake in the middle of the night for a reason? Well, regardless of whether or not the heartburn was providentially motivated, I took the time to enter into prayer.<\/p>\n

Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to pray!<\/p>\n

Psalm 29<\/a> was particularly striking, this week:<\/p>\n

1 <\/span>Ascribe to the Lord<\/span>, O heavenly beings,
\nascribe to the Lord<\/span> glory and strength.
\n2 <\/span>Ascribe to the Lord<\/span> the glory due his name;
\nworship the Lord<\/span> in the splendor of holiness. <\/span><\/p>\n

3 <\/span>The voice of the Lord<\/span> is over the waters;
\nthe God of glory thunders,
\nthe Lord<\/span>, over many waters.
\n4 <\/span>The voice of the Lord<\/span> is powerful;
\nthe voice of the Lord<\/span> is full of majesty.<\/p>\n

5 <\/span>The voice of the Lord<\/span> breaks the cedars;
\nthe Lord<\/span> breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
\n6 <\/span>He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf,
\nand Sirion like a young wild ox.<\/p>\n

7 <\/span>The voice of the Lord<\/span> flashes forth flames of fire.
\n8 <\/span>The voice of the Lord<\/span> shakes the wilderness;
\nthe Lord<\/span> shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.<\/p>\n

9 <\/span>The voice of the Lord<\/span> makes the deer give birth
\nand strips the forests bare,
\nand in his temple all cry, \u201cGlory!\u201d<\/p>\n

10 <\/span>The Lord<\/span> sits enthroned over the flood;
\nthe Lord<\/span> sits enthroned as king forever.
\n11 <\/span>May the Lord<\/span> give strength to his people!
\nMay the Lord<\/span> bless <\/span>his people with peace!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yes, the voice of the Lord is powerful, and His blessing is the only peace we should seek.<\/p>\n
