{"id":3475,"date":"2010-06-28T11:02:00","date_gmt":"2010-06-28T16:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=3475"},"modified":"2010-06-28T11:02:00","modified_gmt":"2010-06-28T16:02:00","slug":"boy-scouts-win-court-battle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=3475","title":{"rendered":"Boy Scouts Win Court Battle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We had a big discussion about this issue <a href=\"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=21\">3 years ago<\/a>, but the Boy Scouts <a href=\"http:\/\/liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com\/2010\/06\/23\/boy-scouts-battle-in-court\/\">will not be evicted<\/a> from a building they built but lease from Philadelphia for $1 a year.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A Philadelphia jury has ruled in favor of the Boy Scouts, meaning they will not be evicted from their home or forced to pay rent, at least for now.<\/p>\n<p>Outside the courthouse, a lawyer for the Boy Scouts, Jason Gosselin, told Fox News the Scouts won on the most important issue, that of First Amendment rights.&#160; The jury found the city posed an unconstitutional condition on the organization by asking it to pay $200,000 annual rent on property it was leasing for a dollar a year, in a building the Scouts built and paid for themselves, all because the city felt the Scouts were in violation of Philadelphia&#8217;s anti-discrimination laws.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;What we really want is to sit down with the city and resolve this matter once and for all&quot; Gosselin says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Supreme Court ruled years ago that, indeed, the Boy Scouts can decide who is allowed to join.&#160; Thus to purport to be <em>shocked<\/em> about the policies of a 100-year-old organization is incredibly disingenuous.&#160; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We had a big discussion about this issue 3 years ago, but the Boy Scouts will not be evicted from a building they built but lease from Philadelphia for $1 a year.
