However, he should take counsel from the Harry Truman quote (which most now say Truman never said): \u201cIf you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/quoteinvestigator.com\/2010\/05\/23\/washington-dog-truman\/\"><span style=\"color: #743399;\">Truman did have some dog issues<\/span><\/a>, and probably should have had a dog.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.peoplepets.com\/photos\/pets-in-the-news\/get-to-know-bo\/1?pkw=PSPEGLTX041309SNND1857&amp;partner=yes\"><span style=\"color: #743399;\">The Obama\u2019s do have a dog<\/span><\/a>, who the President believes has star quality. Things are not going to get any friendlier in Washington the next two months; perhaps President Obama should get better acquainted with the dog, because he may need a friend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And as Lord Byron (not Truman) said in 1841: \u201cNobody need want a friend who can get a dog.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Obama said in a political speech yesterday that his opponents talk about him as if he were a dog.\u00a0 Well, I want to state here that I do not think the President should be treated like a dog.
