Our impression today is that this paints a very poor picture of the religious faith of those common people who converted on the &#8220;mere&#8221; say-so of their sovereign.<\/p>\n<p>However, one might turn that around especially in our independent democratic age. For it might say <em>more<\/em> about what it truly means to have a King and Lord than about their personal devotion.
