{"id":4298,"date":"2011-05-17T11:46:25","date_gmt":"2011-05-17T16:46:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=4298"},"modified":"2011-05-17T11:46:25","modified_gmt":"2011-05-17T16:46:25","slug":"end-of-an-era","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=4298","title":{"rendered":"End of an Era"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I remember watching quite a bit of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnsnews.com\/news\/article\/jerry-lewis-retiring-mda-telethon-sept\" target=\"_blank\">Labor Day telethon<\/a> when I was a kid.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>LAS VEGAS (AP) \u2014 After 45 years, Jerry Lewis is retiring as host of the Muscular Dystrophy Association&#8217;s Labor Day telethon.<\/p>\n<p>The 85-year-old comedian and Las Vegas resident issued a statement Monday through the Tucson, Ariz.-based Muscular Dystrophy Association calling it time for a &quot;new telethon era.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He says he&#8217;ll make his final appearance on the six-hour primetime telethon Sept. 4 by performing his song &quot;You&#8217;ll Never Walk Alone.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Lewis says he&#8217;ll continue as the association&#8217;s national chairman, a role he&#8217;s held since the early 1950s.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The first one was in 1966, and Lewis has really hung in there, long after I even forgot that it was still an annual event.
