{"id":439,"date":"2008-07-07T07:00:53","date_gmt":"2008-07-07T11:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=439"},"modified":"2008-07-07T07:02:39","modified_gmt":"2008-07-07T11:02:39","slug":"on-the-love-of-reading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=439","title":{"rendered":"On the love of reading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having children that love to read is a joy for many a homeschool parent (although the phenomenon is certainly not limited to homeschooled children).<\/p>\n<p>On a recent trip to California&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sanluisobispocounty.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Central Coast<\/a> we had a serendipitous, if not ultimately heartbreaking, homeschool moment with our youngest child. One of our favorite places to hang out, while touring the area, <em>used to be<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leonsbookstore.com\/?page=shop\/aboutus&amp;CLSN_1412=12153945361412c3aa11cf2d5d0a2ad3\" target=\"_blank\">Leon&#8217;s Used Bookstore<\/a>, in San Luis Obispo. Imagine the look on our child&#8217;s face, however, as we walked up to the storefront, only to find the premises empty of its rows of bookshelves, with construction work being done inside. Alas, we soon found out that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ksby.com\/Global\/story.asp?s=8345929\" target=\"_blank\">Leon&#8217;s Used Bookstore is no more<\/a>, the victim of the costs of doing earthquake retrofitting for older, unreinforced masonry buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Our youngest was on the verge of tears.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine&#8230; a 21st century child, upset because her favorite used bookstore had to shut down?
