{"id":6346,"date":"2014-05-28T11:34:00","date_gmt":"2014-05-28T16:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=6346"},"modified":"2014-05-21T10:35:20","modified_gmt":"2014-05-21T15:35:20","slug":"i-now-pronounce-you-man-and-machine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=6346","title":{"rendered":"I Now Pronounce You Man and Machine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man in Florida is suing to be allowed to marry his pornography-filled computer. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/northamerica\/usa\/10814098\/marriage-gay-marriage-mac-wedding-computer-Florida-Utah.html\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Sevier would like to marry his Macbook<\/a>, who, for the purposes of this post, I\u2019ll just call \u201cMac\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Chris tried to get a license to marry Mac, but apparently was turned down. Clearly, Florida is against true marriage equality, and apparently prefers PCs. Why else would they allow for this sort of discrimination?<\/p>\n<p>Listen to some of what Chris says, and you, too, just might be won over.<\/p>\n<p>If gays have the right to \u201cmarry their object of sexual desire, even if they lack corresponding sexual parts, then I should have the right to marry my preferred sexual object.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If gays feel as is they are second class citizens, Mr Sevier argues then \u201cthose of us in the real minority, who want to marry machines and animals, certainly feel like third class citizens\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAllowing my marriage to go forward will not adversely impact the fertility rate any more or less than a same sex couples.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there is a risk that is posed to traditional marriage and children, both man-man couples and man-machine couples pose it equally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn considering the equal protection clause, there are no fewer policy reasons for preventing man-machine couples from marrying than there are for same-sex couples.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Florida, as well as Utah, where he filed another suit, both turned him down. But how different, really, are his arguments than the ones for same-sex marriage. True, the main difference is that Mac isn\u2019t sentient and can\u2019t truly give consent for this, but the arguments are still quite similar. If who you <i>love<\/i> is the <i>only<\/i> determiner of who you can <i>marry<\/i>, who\u2019s to say who you\u2019re allowed to love? <\/p>\n<p>Or maybe, just maybe, marriage is actually about more than just love. Maybe, there\u2019s a purpose, a goal, which marriage was the answer to, and the further we get away from it, the more pointless it will become.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A man in Florida is suing to be allowed to marry his pornography-filled computer.
