{"id":6348,"date":"2014-05-30T11:36:00","date_gmt":"2014-05-30T16:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=6348"},"modified":"2014-05-21T10:37:03","modified_gmt":"2014-05-21T15:37:03","slug":"shoving-us-down-the-slope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stonescryout.org\/?p=6348","title":{"rendered":"Shoving Us Down the Slope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The liberal-leaning magazine, The New Republic, had an article recently in which it re-redefines marriage. Titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newrepublic.com\/article\/117528\/monogamy-outdated-and-unattainable-ideal\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cIt\u2019s Time to Ditch Monogamy\u201d<\/a>, it tries to make the case that the idea of a single spouse is just so \u201coutdated\u201d, as they put it. Their arguments are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We\u2019re living longer, which can lead to boredom.<\/li>\n<li>Young people are used to \u201cvaried and transient love affairs.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Girls can be more independent now than they could 50 years ago.<\/li>\n<li>And basically, after a while, we just can\u2019t help ourselves over our urges to wander, so to speak.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The only lip service Helen Croydon, the author, pays to the major responsibility of child rearing is to note that, hey, women can get artificially inseminated. Never mind that she\u2019s encouraging the difficulty of single motherhood, reducing men to sperm donors, and ignoring the huge task of actually raising a child. No, it\u2019s all just a technological hurdle to overcome.<\/p>\n<p>As I\u2019ve said before, cross one line, and there\u2019s always another line to cross, another cultural norm to overturn. Remember, it\u2019s conservatives that look to tradition and experience to determine the best course of action, while liberals are, by their own definition, \u201cprogressive\u201d; trying out new things and throwing off old ideas, because, in their mind, this new thing <i>ought<\/i> to work, based on whatever arguments they can come up with. Hey, we\u2019re bored, we can\u2019t help ourselves, so let\u2019s chuck these ideas that have worked in the past and try some social experimenting that may or may not actually work better, but at least we\u2019ll feel better about ourselves after we indulge ourselves. <\/p>\n<p><i>That<\/i> is a recipe for a slippery slope, one that has been, rather easily, predicted by conservatives. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The liberal-leaning magazine, The New Republic, had an article recently in which it re-redefines marriage.
